If you only have a few days on Koh Lanta, you must dedicate one day to this trip. The Khlong Chak Waterfall, located at the very south of the island, is one of the most beautiful places we’ve visited in Lanta, whether you’re here with kids or not. See for yourself why it’s worth the trip.
Koh Lanta is relatively small. You can drive from north to south in about 40-50 minutes, and crossing from east to west takes even less time. Despite the small distances, there are plenty of places worth visiting, one of them being the Khlong Chak Waterfall right in the middle of the jungle.
Check out how beautiful it is!

How to get to Khlong Chak Waterfall?
Khlong Chak Waterfall is located in the south of Koh Lanta, near the Ko Mu National Park. The easiest way to get there is by renting a scooter or car, which you can do almost anywhere on the island. The roads in the south are quite winding and the area is hilly. You’ll definitely encounter lots of monkeys along the way, so drive carefully (driving in Thailand is totally different than, say, in Europe – slower, more cautious, and not exactly by the book. And on the left side!).
How to reach the waterfall? Just enter “Parking Khlong Chak Waterfall” in Google Maps and it will guide you straight to the parking lot. Parking fee is 40 THB. As of early 2023, there’s an entrance fee of 200 THB per adult (adults start from 14 years old) and 100 THB for a child 4+. You also need to hire a guide now (500 THB). At the parking lot, you can buy local souvenirs and get something to drink.

Trail to Khlong Chak – one of the prettiest paths on Koh Lanta!
The trail to Khlong Chak Waterfall on Koh Lanta has one of the most charming paths we’ve walked. Even though the first part, leading to the reservoir behind the dam, is mostly muddy, after a few minutes it turns into a fairy tale. The trail follows a beautiful, shallow stream. The path is safe, the stones aren’t mossy or slippery.
As you can imagine, the kids were thrilled – they had never been on this type of path before. Walking through the middle of a river, jumping over stones, surrounded by tropical jungle with huge palms, gigantic ficuses, centipedes, and monkeys, left a big impression on all of us.

A must-stop on the trail – Tiger Cave
About halfway to Khlong Chak Waterfall, there’s a fairly large cave known as Tiger Cave. It’s worth stopping here for a while. The entrance to the cave is really enchanting, with branches encircling the opening and huge trees growing on top. Inside, where it’s pleasantly cool, you can see both stalactites and stalagmites, and there are also quite a few bats visible.
You can light up the interior with a cell phone flashlight (you don’t go very deep, just a few meters). However, I think everything would be much more visible with a regular flashlight or headlamp – if you have one, bring it along.

Khlong Chak Waterfall – unforgettable!
After about an hour and a bit (without kids, probably around 30-40 minutes), we reach the waterfall. It’s not as impressive as those we’ve seen in Iceland, for example. I could even say it’s a micro-waterfall compared to other waterfalls I’ve seen. However, the fact that you can swim in the basin below, where the water flows (the deepest part is about 1.4 m), makes it one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve seen.
Little spoiler: watch out for the kids. It’s really hard to pull them away from here :).

You can also climb to the top of the Khlong Chak waterfall
If you look closely around the waterfall, you’ll notice a small steep path on the right side. The trail leads to the top of the waterfall, where you get a beautiful view of the waterfall and the entire jungle. We recommend this path to those who are sure-footed and not afraid of heights – part of the way leads right along the edge of a cliff. It takes about 3 minutes to climb to the top of the waterfall.

What to bring to Khlong Chak Waterfall?
- What to bring to Khlong Chak Waterfall?
- Water-resistant tied shoes (Crocs are perfect for kids – ours zip around in them in Thailand or trekking shoes that won’t fall off)
- Mosquito repellents
- Something to drink / possibly something to eat if you want to have a little picnic under the waterfall
- Swimwear, long-sleeve UV filter shirts (highly recommended in tropical countries – you don’t need to keep reapplying sunscreen)
How long is the trail to the waterfall?
The whole trail is about 4 km. It took us about 2.5 hours, including swimming under the waterfall. The path is not difficult or exhausting. Kids who are not used to walking calmly can be carried in a carrier. Little ones, like our three-year-old Baśka, can manage the walk on their own (unless they fall asleep – then it’s still good to have a carrier).
